The beginning....Hillside Baptist Church (Union Church plant) was formed out of the ministry of New Testament Baptist Church. In February 2025, an opportunity was presented to New Testament Baptist Church (NTBC), and, on February 23, 2025, NTBC voted to become the sending church for a Union, MO church plant.
Our new church plant will be a mission minded and small group discipleship style ministry.
God has started a great work in Union, MO!
In February, a team was launched to start remolding the building. And in April 2025, Bro. Chuck Tedrow was approved as a church planter for the national association during the BMA meeting held in Texas.
God gave a clear vision and burden to Bro. Chuck in the development of the church. That burden.... to have a mission-minded and small group discipleship ministry. This entails the church being mission-minded and engaged in discipleship.
From that vision, the church's purpose along with the four actionable steps to take to accomplish the church purpose were born.
Right now, a core group of people is being built. Ones that are discipled and grounded in God's Word. This has been the first priority. The second priority has been the physical remodeling of the building.
In August, we will have a soft launch of the church with the official formation of the church at the first of 2026.
We plan to continue to keep everyone updated on a monthly basis with the most current newsletter included on this site.

Mission
Our MISSION...is to carry out the seven great commissions.
Purpose
Recognizing the fulfilling of our MISSION...is totally connected to our FOLLOW-SHIP.
This will be accomplished through four actions:
- Evangelize people local and around the world
- Establish people in the Word of God
- Edify people in the ministry
- Engage people to reproduce themselves
Church Key Verse
Matthew 4:19 "And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."
Leadership:

Bro. Chuck Tedrow (church planter for the Union, MO church) was raised in a Christian home in Iowa. One night while he was attending his church Awana program as a child, he made a profession of faith in a room with many other kids. Later as a teenager in 1974, he realized he had never asked Jesus into his heart. So, on a Wednesday night he asked Jesus to save his life. He went on to be baptized by immersion that year as well. Several life events followed that night including his studying of God's Word at Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO and marrying his wife, Joanie in 1979. Bro. Chuck and Sis. Joanie have two children and five grandchildren.
Since that time Bro Chuck has been involved in the ministry in the capacities of youth associate pastor (17 years), pastor (15 years), Grow Leader (4 years) and church planter (4 years).
He is passionate about telling others about Christ, teaching God's Word, leading discipleship efforts wherever God leads, and empowering other Christians to disciple others.

Bro. John Sumpter (Outreach Ministry Leader) was born and raised in Sullivan MO. As a child he was saved in 1974 at First Baptist Church in Sullivan. Following high school John went into the Marines in 1982 and served our country in Panama, Desert Shield and Desert Storm. While stationed in California, John was baptized by immersion. In 1998 he rededicated his life to serve in any way he could at Reidville Baptist Church. John is very passionate about soul winning. He is a member of New Testament Baptist church, and has completed Discipleship 1 and taken courses of Biblical Doctrines classes under Brother Chuck Tedrow.

Discipleship Overview: Every disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ is a believer, but not every believer is a disciple. The Biblical portrait of a true disciple is someone who lives in obedience to the Word of God and not someone who simply believes on Him for salvation. A true disciple is both a learner and a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. Disciples learn of Jesus through the reading and study of God's Word and then follow Him by obeying His Word.

Current Newsletter:
September 2025
Dear BMA Supporting Churches,
God is doing an awesome work in Union, MO!
It has been a wonderful August and beginning of September at the Union Church Plant as we continue to average 14. We will begin knocking on doors on the first of October and currently have at least two churches coming to help with canvasing the area! Also, we will be looking for a family to come and serve in the nursery and children’s church for either one month or one Sunday a month. If you would like to help, please give me a call or email. For anyone new to the church plant, we have started one-on-one discipleship lessons.
The remodeling of the building is coming along tremendously. The carpet has been laid, and we have finished the base trim. Facebook will be operational in a couple of weeks, and the website is ready to launch. The next phase includes improvements to the parking lot, front door, and sign. We are working with a lawyer now to get everything in order for the new church - Hillside Baptist Church.
I will begin teaching a 9-week course on the Doctrine of the Holy Spirit in September at New Testament Baptist Church in Sullivan, Missouri. Some of the people from the church plant will attend this also.
On a personal note, my health has not been the greatest over the last couple of weeks. MS is not easy to deal with, but I have to stay faithful and finish my race. I’ve been having a lot of fogginess, fatigue, and weakness. Your prayers would be greatly appreciated.
The soft launch of Hillside Baptist Church will be November 2, 2025. BMA Global, Church Planting Director, Brother Larry Barker, will be speaking in the 10:30am service. We will be holding a building dedication and praying for the ministry of the new church plant, and we will also be having an Open House at 3:00pm. Pastor Josh Wright of New Testament Baptist Church our sending church, and Missouri State and Local Missions director, Brother Ben Kingston, Bethel Baptist Church, will speak in the afternoon along with Brother Larry. We will have a dessert fellowship to show our appreciation and thanks to everyone for their work and support.
Our worship/service will probably be different than most of you are used to. We will be small-group style discipleship with u-shaped tables set up, and an atmosphere that is relaxed. Attenders will be encouraged to dress casually and enjoy home-brewed coffee or tea. A PowerPoint presentation will be utilized, and participants will be encouraged to ask and respond to questions.
Our church purpose is discipleship.
In late July and August, I taught lessons on “ Dealing with sin.”
- Understand the nature of sin.
- Understanding why you sin.
- Understanding how God views your sin.
- Understanding how to respond when you sin.
- Understanding how you can overcome sin.
Then, in late August and September, we have been studying “Liberty in Christ”.
- You have liberty through Jesus Christ.
- You have liberty to make your own choices.
- Your liberty will affect people around you.
- Determining the boundaries of your liberty.
- Your liberty is balanced by the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
Our church purpose is missions. We were blessed to have Missionary Brother Michael Strong speak one Sunday about his ministry in Minneapolis. We were also blessed to be part of the assembling of John and Romans at New Testament Baptist Church in Sullivan. These scriptures will be sent out with the Everlasting Smiles Christmas Shoeboxes and to various missionaries to aid in their ministries.
The Union Church Plant has been tremendously blessed through the support of BMA global, the BMA state association, and the Meramec Landmark Baptist Association. In addition, we have had many anonymous love offerings to assist in the ministry.
If any church would like me to come speak about the Union Church Plant, I am available this fall on Wednesday nights. I would love to share our vision with your people.
Church purpose: Recognizing the fulfilling of our MISSION . . . is totally connected to our FOLLOW-SHIP. Our church will do this in four actions:
“Evangelism” of our area and around the world
“Establish” people in the Word of God
“Edify” people to get involved in church and
“Engage” people to reproduce themselves.
Striving Together,
Bro. Chuck Tedrow
Church Planter
